Grant Wheeler started his career with the State of Missouri in 2019 with the Division of Fire Safety/ Fire and Explosive Investigation Unit. His primary duties are to assist local law enforcement and fire departments with fire and explosion investigations. Along with his primary duties, he is also a field training officer. Wheeler has been in public safety since 1996 when he became a firefighter with what is now Mt. Vernon Fire Protection District. There, he worked through the ranks to Lieutenant, before becoming Assistant Chief which he still holds that rank. He began his law enforcement career in 2001. He worked for the Mt. Vernon Police Department, where he made the rank of Corporal. He then worked for the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office as a Patrol Lieutenant until starting with the Division of Fire Safety.
