Jon Nelson
State Highway Safety and Traffic Engineer

Jon is the State Highway Safety and Traffic Engineer for MoDOT. In this role, Jon leads the department’s highway safety and traffic operations, including the development of statewide policy, direction, and strategic plans. Jon frequently collaborates with partners throughout the state and the country to implement both infrastructure and behavioral solutions to provide a transportation system that is both safe and reliable. This includes administering federal safety programs made available through the Federal Highway Administration, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Jon has worked for MoDOT since graduating from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, and he is a registered professional engineer in the state of Missouri.
