The proposal to launch a Missouri Leadership Academy emerged from the work of the employee-led Leadership Academy Working Group. This working group included representatives from all 16 executive departments. It completed its report in March 2018, after an intensive “sprint” to assess the state of Missouri’s current leadership development landscape, identify best practices from other organizations, and develop its recommendations. The Cabinet reviewed the recommendations in April 2018 and agreed to establish a new cross-department leadership program within 90 days. A committee of the Cabinet then oversaw the design of the program and the selection of the first class.
The Missouri Leadership Academy is the result of this rapid, cross-department collaboration.
